About
Lydia Tucci Jewelry is a continous search to balance minimal designs with wearable art.
Hi, I’m Lydia
I design jewelry to be worn daily – minimal, clean lines, and timeless.
Here is my story:
I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. Ever since I can remember, I have been making and creating objects. My interest in art and design started at a very young age. I made silk flowers for my mom on Mother’s Day when I was 10, painted murals at my son’s elementary school, and made beaded jewelry with my girlfriend’s support among many other things. I can’t remember any period of time when I wasn’t making sketches, designing, or making things with my hands.
My fascination for how an abstract thought could be transformed into a tangible space led me to pursue careers in architecture, interior design, and set design. This background has shaped and inspired my designs.
Life took me on an unsuspected path. My oldest son was diagnosed with a rare disease that needed my full attention. I had to reinvent myself in order to continue caring for my family and fulfilling my passion for creating. When I moved to NY, I pursued a lifelong dream of learning to work with metals. Once I started taking metalsmith classes and learning how to transform base metals into beautiful pieces, I was hooked!
My work draws upon both the organic curves and shapes of nature and the stark geometric forms found in architecture. I love to sketch and sometimes ideas will come to me in the middle of the night. For more complex pieces, I make paper or brass models and work on the technical details before making the final piece in silver. All of my jewelry is created by hand from sheet, wire, tubing, and semi-precious stones mostly in silver using traditional and modern techniques at my home studio. My vision is to create simple pieces with clean lines and minimal designs. In my design process, I strive to remove elements until the intention of the design is complete. The less is more until more is no longer needed approach. During the design process, I also pay attention to the negative spaces. Each piece is created by hand with attention to detail and to being well made.
Lydia.Tucci jewelry is made in small batches and most designs are limited edition or one-of-a-kind.
